Foosaner Art Museum (formerly Brevard Art Museum ) is an art museum in Melbourne, Florida

History

The museum was founded in 1978 as Brevard Art Center and Museum, in the same year a building was purchased and converted complex for use as a museum. In 1980 the building was expanded to an adjacent building. In the 1990s, the Musem experienced a decline, so that even a closure or reclassification was considered. The museum was the Florida Institute of Technology connected, after a donation by Samuel J. Foosaner it got its present name.

Collection

The museum displays American and European 19th and 20th century art and organizes exhibitions on contemporary artists. It also houses a part of the estate of Ernst Oppler.
