Football Association of Indonesia

The Football Association of Indonesia, shortly PSSI ( Indonesian: Persatuan Sepak bola Seluruh Indonesia) is the association for football clubs in Indonesia. It was founded in 1930 from seven regional associations. In 1954 the Association at as one of twelve founding members of the Asian Football Confederation. Two years earlier, the association of FIFA had joined. Since 2004, Indonesia is part of the Vision Asia project of the AFC.

History

Was established at the time of the Indonesian association was the land still a colony of the Netherlands. An Indonesian name Soeratin Sosrosoegondo, which studied in Germany, was the initiator of establishing the association. The team played under the flag of the Netherlands. After the World Cup, in 1939, the cooperation between the two organizations has been resolved. Indonesian Championship

The football championship in Indonesia is the most important national title. The master of men is played since 1914. Until 1979 it was only an amateur competition. In the period from 1979 to 1994, there was a half- Professional League named league Sepakbola Utama before with the League Indonesia 1994, the professionalism was introduced. Since 2008, calls itself the League in its present name Indonesia Super League. First champions of the League Indonesia was Persib Bandung. It take part 18 teams in the first division.
