Background

Lyricist and screenwriter Dean Pitchford and composer and arranger Michael Gore, working together on the film music for Fame 1980 - The road to fame were involved and have been for the theme song to the Oscar, also worked on the soundtrack for Footloose. They were supported by Tom Snow (Let's Hear It for the Boy and Somebody's Eyes ), Eric Carmen ( Almost Paradise ), Jim Steinman ( Holding Out for a Hero ), Sammy Hagar, Bill Wolfer (Dancing in the Sheets ) and Kenny Loggins.

The album was mastered at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles by Wally Traugott. 1998, a remastered version of the album was released at the time of the first listed of the same musicals, which contains four more songs.

Success

The album topped 10 weeks on the Billboard 200 and reached in other countries as the top of the albums charts. Two tracks from the album were nominated in the category of Best Original Song for the Academy Award in 1985. Worldwide, the album sold over 10 million copies.

Already in the year of publication gave the American RIAA certification for a five platinum records. In March 2001, the album in the U.S. reached a certification for a total of nine platinum records. The British Phonographic Industry and the German Association of the music industry certified each a gold record.
