For No One (German: , For no ') is a song by British band The Beatles in 1966 He appeared on the album Revolver. . Was written the song by Paul McCartney, but published under the care usual when the Beatles author indication Lennon / McCartney.

Background

Recording

For No One was taken in May 1966 in the Abbey Road Studios in London. Producer was George Martin, assisted by Geoff Emerick. George Harrison and John Lennon play not on the recording. On May 9, 1966 ten takes with Ringo Starr on drums and recorded Paul McCartney at the piano. Then, the character played by McCartney striking clavichord was added in multitracked. This instrument from the private collection of George Martin was transported thereto from Martin's house in the studio. On May 16, 1966 McCartney took up his vocals.

The solo in For No One was recorded at McCartney's request on a French horn. Together with George Martin he had a solo composed while a note deliberately used, which is outside the usual gamut of a French horn.

For the recording session on May 19, 1966, when the French horn solo should be included, the British horn player Alan Civil was posted. This reacted astonished that he should play a tone for a french horn is not suitable, but managed nonetheless. George Martin later reported that McCartney did not realize how brilliant Civil had played the solo and invited him to play better there, whereupon he reacted very strongly. The solo was not repeated. Civil played French horn in 1967 again on two other Beatle songs: A Day in the Life and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

On June 6, 1966 For No One Mono was mixed - this version was repeatedly rejected and on 21 June 1966. On this day, For No One was mixed in stereo.

Publication

On August 5, 1966 For No One appeared on the seventh studio album by the Beatles Revolver. As a single, the song was not released.

Since the publication of numerous cover versions were published by For No One, including by Cilla Black, Liza Minnelli, Maceo Parker, Emmylou Harris, Rickie Lee Jones, Anne Sofie von Otter with Elvis Costello, Rick Springfield, Diana Krall or Meret Becker. Paul McCartney published in 1984 a re-recording of the piece on the soundtrack of his film music Broad Street.
