Force-field analysis

In force field analysis (English force field analysis ) is defined as a simple method for the analysis of the driving and restraining factors in a situation. The force field analysis provides a framework for an idea (originally social) situation; they considered forces that produce either drifting toward a goal ( helping forces) or blocking effect ( hindering forces) and the situation as a state of equilibrium. The force field analysis goes back to the Gestalt psychologist Kurt Lewin and is used OE, process and change management in the field of social sciences, psychology.

A force field analysis is used in various phases of problem-solving method to represent the situation. Is important to recognize that a change in the situation on two mechanisms can be based:

  • You can reinforce the changing forces
  • One can weaken the restraining forces

The Force Field Analysis is a simple and rapid method for initial analysis of situations. Thus, it primarily serves the aim to make the situation more than one person to access and to draw attention to possibilities.
