Forcipiger longirostris

Long mouth butterflyfish ( Forcipiger longirostris )

The long foot- Pinzettfisch or tube mouth butterflyfish ( Forcipiger longirostris ) differs by the longer snout, the smaller mouth and the dark scales on the throat of his otherwise confusingly similar relative, the Yellow Maskenpinzettfisch ( Forcipiger flavissmus ). In addition, he has only 10 to 11 skid fin spines, F. flavissmus has 12 spines.

The long foot- Pinzettfisch reaches a length of up to 22 cm. He is a territorial species, and lives singly or in pairs in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean from the Seychelles to Tahiti and Pitcairn. He settled outer reefs, where he studied with his strong jaw extended by small crustaceans and other invertebrates. At the end of the trunk of the long foot- butterflyfish has a black eye patch, which serves to distract potential attackers from the actual head of the fish.

The long foot- Pinzettfisch is not suitable because of its sensitivity to the attitude in a saltwater aquarium.
