The Ford County has a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 14,081 inhabitants and a population density of 11.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Paxton.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern Illinois. It has an area of 1260 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. At the Ford County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Ford County was formed on February 17, 1859 from parts of Vermilion County than 102 County in Illinois and is the youngest County. It was named after Thomas Ford, the eighth Governor of Illinois.

The first sedentary settlers were Joshua and Robert Trickel, two brothers from Ohio. They formed in 1836 Trickel 's Grove and a short time later, they had a lot of new neighbors. Another early settler was Michael L Sullivant. He bought thousands of acres of land and cultivated it. Some years later it was referred to as the largest grain farm in the world with a one-man management. 1866 were also a number of Norwegian settlers.

Another notable event in the history of Ford County was the first and only Hanged in the county. The jury found him guilty in 1897 to have a woman killed in the northwest of Gibson City.
