Ford 15m RS Coupe (1969 )

The Ford Taunus 12M/15M ( from 1967 without the " Taunus " ) Series P6 ( project = 6, ie, the sixth new car design at Ford-Werke in Cologne since the end of World War II ) are the successors of the 12m series P4, from which they took the basic design with V4 engine and front-wheel drive with the same wheelbase, the body was slightly longer, wider and lower, the front axle was new. . instead of double wishbones with radführender leaf spring there was now MacPherson strut, wishbone and steering rack. From September 1966 to August 1970 about 670,000 cars (of which about 385,000 and about 285,000 12m 15m ) produced at Ford in Cologne and Genk (Belgium ) in three model series. The P6 is the only P- model (P2 to P7) of Ford, of which there was no convertible conversion. The redesigned successor Ford Taunus TC ( " Knudsen Taunus " ) with in-line engine and rear-wheel drive had the same platform as the British Ford Cortina.

Model history

The first series ran until August 1967. For the second series from September 1967 ( model year 1968) were some technical changes / improvements made ​​, changed, among other things, the electrics to 12 volt and revised interior and dashboard. Furthermore, it was from September 1967, the car offered only as Ford 12m/15m as in the larger series P7 also, no need to add " Taunus " in the name and. The third series in September 1968, then again modified / upgraded in the equipment and in September 1970 replaced by the Ford Taunus TC.

12m and 15m differed among other things, by different grilles, headlights (round at 12m, rectangular at 15m ), tail ( teardrop shape at 12m, rectangular shape at 15 m) and were also equipped differently inside.

The model name did not say anything more out about the displacement, so that for example the 12m was available with a 1.7 - liter engine. The type designation was no longer mandatory to draw conclusions on the engine.

There were two four-door sedans and a three-door station wagon " tournament", a three-door van ( only 12m ) and a two-door coupe. The first time offered RS models were the ancestors of Fords are still existing " formula RS".

Ford 15m RS

The 15m RS models were offered in March 1968 as a two - or four-door sedan and a coupe exclusively with floor shift and replaced from September 1968 to August 1970 by the 2nd RS series.

The two RS- series distinguished themselves among others in the number of dials in the instrument panel (1st series = 2 instruments, 2 = 3 series instruments) and in the steering wheel (1st series = steering wheel with three spokes with holes and small ungepolsterter hub, 2nd series = clad three-spoke steering wheel with large dashpot ). Both RS- versions had a large tachometer, 4 small additional dials on the center console, 2 halogen auxiliary lights in the grille and were, among others. with Recaro bucket reclining seats, chrome (instead of painted ) steel wheels or steel crank roof available.

The RS models of the first series were delivered only in silver gray metallic or red, and had, as a rule, the time- typical " rally paint " with circumferential black stripe in the surrounds of the side flanks and between which the hood. The vehicles of the second RS series were still available in eight solid and metallic colors. In silver or red cars of the second RS Series was isolated, except the already completely black RS interior, including the roof lining black. All RS models were equipped with a standard 1.7 - liter engine with 70 hp first (51 kW) and brake booster on request - from September 1968, 75 hp (55 kW) and the brake booster as standard.
