Sting - edge joint turtle ( Kinixys erosa )

The spiked edge - joint turtle ( Kinixys erosa ) is a tortoise ( Testudinidae ) from the kind of joint turtles ( Kinixys ).

Features

The front edge of the brown-colored upper carapace is conspicuously flattened and drawn-out. These jagged armor form led to the name "thorn - border joint turtle". The edges of the armor plates on the top ( carapace ) are dark brown or black in color, while the inner part of the armor plates usually identifies a brown - yellow color. The limbs, the head and the tail are yellow- ocher. The plastron extends in the front part further out than the upper tank. Males generally have a longer and thicker tail than females. Adult animals can reach a size of up to 30 cm.

Habitat and Distribution

The native countries of diurnal sting edge - joint turtles in the tropical rain forests of West Africa, particularly in Ghana, Gabon and Togo to the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. There the animals living on rich, partially leafy soil and require high humidity.

Nutrition

The Kinixys erosa feeds mainly on plant foods such as grasses, herbs and various fruits.

Reproduction

The pairing can take place throughout the year. This circle and ram the males, the females and mate then with them.
