Formannskapsdistrikt

Formannskapsdistrikt name of a historical political and administrative unit in Norway, by law ( " formannskapslovene " ) was introduced on 14 January 1837. According to § 1 prestegjeld everyone should form their own formannskapsdistrikt.

In this way, the ecclesiastical division of the country and for secular administrative organization. Norway consisted in 1837 of 373 Formannskapsdistrikten.

Another law ( " matrikkelloven " ) introduced in 1853 the term community ( Odsherred or on nynorsk herad ) as a substitute for a formannskapsdistrikt.

1935 Norway consisted of 682 rural communes ( mr eder) and 65 city municipalities ( bykommuner ). Among the cities had 43 status as a city with Market Law ( kjøpstad ) and 22 as a city with staple right ( ladested ).

The distinction between urban municipalities and rural communities has been repealed by local law ( kommunelov ) of 25 September 1992.
