Former constellations

The list of historical constellations contains a selection of asterisms of European astronomical tradition. These constellations are not among the 88 of the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) binding specified constellations that are now explicitly called constellations.

Explanation of the table below

  • Name: Lists the name of the constellation.
  • Latin: Call the Latin name of the constellation.
  • Hem: . Reports the location of the constellation in the celestial sphere. Where N stands for the north and south of the southern hemisphere. With N / S or S / N marked constellations are visible in both hemispheres.
  • Author: Lists the author who first introduced the constellation or named or published in cards.
  • Year: Indicates the year in which the constellation can be inserted or detected.
  • Position: Position to the current IAU constellations
