FORMOSAT-1

FORMOSAT -1 (福尔摩沙 卫星 一号, until December 2004 ROCSAT -1 ) is an Earth observation satellite. It is operated by the Taiwanese Space Agency and National Space Organization is the first satellite of the Republic of China ( Taiwan).

The launch took place on 16 January in 1999 with a Athena I rocket from launch pad 46 of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

The main task of the satellite is to observe the oceans and exploration of the ionosphere.
