Fornalutx

Fornalutx [ foɾnəluʧ ] is a municipality in the north-west of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. It counts 692 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The eponymous main town had 2008 483 inhabitants. In 2006, the proportion of foreigners was 22.5 % ( 161), the proportion of German population 5.9% (42). Fornalutx located northeast of Soller in the mountain range of the Serra de Tramuntana. The spruced-up place that has already received two beauty prices, is a popular tourist destination.

Festivals

Every year around September 8, around the time of the Dia de la Mare de Deu Novitat, is in Fornalutx, probably the only place in Mallorca, still celebrated the feast Correbou. This is, like similar festivals by one to the early days reaching bull sacrifice. A bull is adorned by a young woman with a wreath of flowers to be then driven through the town. In the end he is slaughtered and the meat is divided among the donors of the bull. For several years, protest at the same time various animal protection organizations against this ancient custom.
