Forsand

Forsand is a commune in the Norwegian Rogaland. The community center is also called Forsand, where most residents live. The municipality is geographically one of the largest in Rogaland with one of the lowest population densities.

History

In Forsandmoen remains of a village by the end of the Early Iron Age have been found. There is a visitor center and museum Landa village, with copies of houses from the Iron Age and Bronze Age was established. It is believed that here already have about 1,500 BC, people lived to about AD 600.

Geography

A few kilometers from Landa is a terminal moraine at the south end of the lake Haukalivatn. Through this moraine mountain Professor Jens Esmark 1823 has been inspired to the theory, all of Scandinavia was covered by ice.

As a well-known attraction of the Pulpit Rock is located in the municipality Forsand. It is a rocky plateau, which lies about 600 meters above the Lysefjord. The local name is Hyvlatånnå. The Lysefjord is long and narrow with steep sides, and his time of Jules Verne as particularly fear was portrayed inspiring. The name comes from the bright granite cliffs ago.

Another imposing rock massif is the Kjerag which rises about 1000 m steeply over the Lysefjord.

Agriculture and energy production are the main economic activities.
