Forsyth County (Georgia)

The Forsyth County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cumming.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Georgia, is in the west about 120 miles from Alabama, in the north- north-west about 100 miles from Tennessee, located in the north about 90 miles from North Carolina and the North East about 80 miles from South Carolina. It has an area of 641 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hall County, Gwinnett County, Fulton County, Cherokee County and Dawson County.

History

Forsyth County was formed on December 3, 1832 from parts of Cherokee County. It was named for John Forsyth, a Georgia Governor and U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren.

According to the census of 2000, there were 98 407 people in Forsyth County. Of these, 729 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants living in 34 565 households, and 28,101 families. The population density was 168 people per square kilometer. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 102.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.6 males.
