Fort Mandan

Fort Mandan was built by the Lewis and Clark expedition as a winter camp, which they used as such from 2 November 1804 to 7 April 1805.

It was located about 12 miles from present-day Washburn, North Dakota, on the banks of the Missouri River near a village of the Mandan. On your way back in August of 1806, the expedition found before only the charred remains of the fort. The cause of the fire remained unknown. Nearby there is now a replica of the former continued
