Fort Saskatchewan

Fort Saskatchewan is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is located 25 km northeast of Edmonton on the North Saskatchewan River.

History

1795 established the North West Company and the Hudson's Bay Company near the mouth of the Sturgeon River in the North Saskatchewan River two trading posts for the fur trade ( Fort Augustus and Edmonton House ). The place was first known as Sturgeon Creek Post, but soon the name to Fort Saskatchewan. In 1808 the fort was laid on the territory of today's Edmonton and after the merger of the two trading companies in 1821, the trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company and the name Fort Edmonton was only retained. 1875 Fort was built by the North West Mounted Police in the area of ​​present-day town of Fort Saskatchewan.
