Fortschritt

The Combine progress agricultural machinery was in the GDR in the 1960s, the largest agricultural equipment manufacturer. From 1978, the entire country of the GDR and engineering parts of the food engineering goods were summarized in this company.

History

The first stage in the development of combine progress and agricultural machinery began in 1951 through the merger of five East Saxon agricultural machinery factories VVB agricultural, construction and woodworking machinery ( VVB LBH ). These were the companies:

  • Hercules farm machinery works Neustadt / Saxony (formerly Branch of Hering AG Nürnberg)
  • Agricultural machinery factory Stolpen (formerly Carl August Klinger )
  • Kombinus - Dreschmaschinenbau Singwitz (formerly Herrmann Raußendorf )
  • Agricultural machinery factory Bischofswerda (formerly company Max Knauthe )
  • Machinery and gear Kirschau (formerly Company CA Wagner)

The farms in Neustadt and Stolpen had already merged in 1949 under the name of progress - country machine works with a common line in Neustadt.

The formation of the VVB LBH progress and agricultural machinery works Neustadt / Sachsen was a first step towards the concentration and profile in agricultural engineering in the GDR. The company was subsequently extended by time allocation of other plants of the East Saxon area and extensive investments and focused on the development and production of grain and forage technology.

In 1953 it was renamed VEB Progress crop gathering machine and 1964 in VEB Progress agricultural machinery. In 1955 and 1990 used the progress trademark was registered with the Office for Inventions and Patents of the GDR.

In connection with the merger of the agricultural and food goods to the VVB Engineering Agriculture and Food Goods Technology in 1970 started for the Combine progress the second stage. It took next to other factories of the region and the VEB Petkus farm machinery factory Wutha in the field of food engineering goods farms

  • VEB Mühlenbau Dresden,
  • VEB mills and engineering Wittenberg,
  • VEB Erfurt malting and storage construction,
  • VEB bakery machine room,
  • VEB apparatus Nordhausen.

The product responsibility towards the agriculture of the GDR included from this time machine systems for grain production and processing, and the Halmfutterproduktion and processing.

In the 1970s, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, including former private or parastatal companies were of agricultural machinery and supply area, taken over and classified as operating units or business premises in the corresponding combine operations.

The third stage began with the founding of the combine progress and agricultural machinery in 1978. From this point the land engineering of the GDR was in this business unit until the official termination of the activities summarized on 30 June 1990.

After the dissolution of the combine in the early summer of 1990 arose under trusteeship first 53 limited liability companies. The parent company in Neustadt in Sachsen was continued as progress harvesters GmbH.

Farms

With the establishment of the combine progress in 1951 was based on the creation of a large company with a central line in Neustadt / Saxony. The individual enterprises had de facto the status of production areas. Organizational and management structure of the company were developed in this aspect in the following period. These included the establishment of a central research and development area in Neustadt / Saxony. The acquired in the 1950s and 1960s establishments served mainly to expand capacity and could be integrated into this structure.

For some of the companies acquired in 1970 such integration was not readily possible. Therefore came especially for the enterprises of the food goods engineering a corporate-like organization and management of the application.

In the early 1980s arose from the premises of the first stage of development units in which the existing organizational and management structure reached its limits, especially since the majority of the Combine firms was classified into Group- like structures. Therefore, the majority of centralized operations for the harvesting equipment management and performance units in 1982 dissolved and equipped these companies with all the features necessary for an independent act. In connection therewith, including the combine harvester Bischofswerda / Singwitz has emerged with nearly 7000 employees.

In the overview of the most important companies and the period of service on the agricultural machinery combine progress of each best-known operation name will be used. These farms had the status of a VEB.

Produce

It started in the first stage of development with the resumption of the product lines of Raußendorf, Klinger, Knauthe and Wagner Companies. These were mainly threshers, straw balers and manure pumps. It latched seamlessly onto the further and in-house developments of the 1950s, were among those

  • Several types of threshers and straw presses, including the steel version 117 K with remote depositors and straw press,
  • Blower shredder F 603,
  • Several types Traktoranbaumähwerke and Haymakers
  • Several types of waterers, manure pumps and manure removal.

This was followed by the aligned on the large farms products

  • Clearing and collecting press T 242 ( from 1953),
  • Forage harvesters E 062 ( 1955 ),
  • Forage E 065 with the successor E 066 / 067 (from 1957),
  • Flail chopper E 069 ( 1963 ),
  • Baler K 441 K 442 with the successor (from 1959),
  • Radrechwender E 247/249 ( 1962 ),
  • Multi-purpose trailer / Stalldungstreuer T 087 (from 1964).

In the course of specialization of agricultural machinery enterprises, the product line combine harvesters from Weimar works were taken over in the late 1950s and introduced the self-propelled Halmfuttererntemaschinen:

  • Combines E 175 and other models in this series (from 1960),
  • Combines E 512 ( 1968 ),

  • Combines E 514 ( 1983 ),
  • Combines E 524, the first model of a new series (from 1988 ).

Of the self-propelled forage harvesters and Schwadmähern each about 90,000 units were produced from 1970 to 1989. These are the world's largest ever numbers in such products.
