Fortune Brands

Fortune Brands is a company from the United States. The company is listed on the S & P 500. The company's headquarters is located in Deerfield, Illinois. Fortune Brands employs about 34,000 people (as of 2005).


The company was founded in 1969 under the name of American Brands. A subsidiary was the American Tobacco Company, which dates back to 1890.

In 1987, the company acquired the ACCO, a holding company with various business areas, in particular with the brand Swingline.

1997 American Brands was renamed Fortune Brands.

Fortune Brands sold in 2005 the division ACCO that the new company ACCO Brands merged and now back with the company called ACCO General Binding Corporation.

The end of 2007 the wine department for 885 million U.S. dollars was sold to Constellation Brands.



With the acquisition of the company in 1976 Acushnet Company manufactures Fortune Brands golf balls of brands Titleist, FootJoy brand shoes and golf clothing.
