History
The company was founded in 1969 under the name of American Brands. A subsidiary was the American Tobacco Company, which dates back to 1890.
In 1987, the company acquired the ACCO, a holding company with various business areas, in particular with the brand Swingline.
1997 American Brands was renamed Fortune Brands.
Fortune Brands sold in 2005 the division ACCO that the new company ACCO Brands merged and now back with the company called ACCO General Binding Corporation.
