Forum of Nerva

The Forum of Nerva ( Forum also Transitorium ) was the third of four Imperial Forums in Rome. Its construction was started by Emperor Vespasian or Domitian. However, it was only completed in 97 AD under Nerva, consecrated and named after him.

The forum was located between the Forum of Augustus and the Temple of Vespasian peace with its forecourt, which is why it Transitorium Forum: is called ( German " passage Forum "). It formed at the same time the connection between the Roman Argiletum and the Forum. In the northeast of about 120 × 45 m large square is a temple dedicated to Minerva was, which was demolished in 1606 under Pope Paul V and used as building material for the fountain of the Acqua Paola and the Cappella Borghese in Santa Maria Maggiore.

In the southeast, a portico covered the Forum, of which, however, only two Corinthian columns have survived.
