Fosdinovo

Fosdinovo is a municipality with 4982 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Massa -Carrara in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 48 km ². It is located about 130 km northwest of Florence, about 15 km northwest of Massa and 10 km north- west of Carrara.

The districts include Canepari, Caniparola, Caprognano, Carignano, Giucano, Marciaso, Posterla and Tendola.

The neighboring municipalities are Aulla, Carrara, Castelnuovo Magra ( SP), Fivizzano, Ortonovo (SP) and Sarzana (SP).

History

The town's name derives from the term Faucenova ( new passport ), first mentioned in the 11th century. The Castello Malaspina was first mentioned in 1084 without the additional name, as the so-called Nobili di Fosdinovo together with the Bianchi d' Erberia and then the Luni the place ruled on September 1, 1202 called the place the Costituzione del comune out. Since 1340 was the site of the Malaspina family.

Attractions

  • Castello Malaspina castle of the Malaspina di Fosdinovo from the line of Malaspina dello Spino Fiorito, mentioned in 1084 as Castrum Fosdinovense in a document from Lucca, since 1340 owned by the Malaspina.
  • Oratorio dei Bianchi, 1468 built the oratory, was destroyed in 1501 and completed in 1666 again.
