Fosh (Haganah unit)

The FO'SH (short for Plugoth Sadeh ) was a Jewish elite attack force, founded as Kommandoarm of the Haganah in 1937, during the Arab revolt of 1936-1939 in the British Mandate of Palestine. The members were selected by Yitzhak Sadeh personally.

In March 1938, the FO'SH had trained 1,500 soldiers, divided into 13 regional groups. They were armed with stolen SMLE, grenades, rifles and other small arms.

They attacked together with the Special Night Squads under Orde Charles Wingate Arab villages. The great strength of FO'SH, their mobility, they came in good stead in these attacks.

The FO'SH was dissolved in 1939 and converted into the larger HI'SH. During the Second World War, the veterans of the FO'SH of the British Army were trained and used for night operations.
