Fosmid

Fosmids are a class of genetic vectors, that is, elements in which a DNA segment can be hineinkloniert of interest and then placed in bacteria. Fosmids are similar to cosmids but are derived in contrast to those of the bacterial F- plasmid from. Compared to most plasmids fosmids can usually significantly longer DNA strands, usually take up to 45-50 kilobase pairs. Due to their size usually lies per bacterial cell from only one copy of the fosmid. Fosmids therefore are indeed better to plant a gene library, but worse for propagation of the inserted DNA. In practice, have become rare since the introduction of fosmids bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC ).
