Fossa regia

The fossa regia was a line drawn between Scipio Aemilianus boundary line between the after end of the Third Punic War in 146 BC the newly established Roman province of Africa and the Kingdom of Numidia Masinissa of the Confederate.

It ran something like this:

  • From the mouth of the river of Tuscia (now Kébir ) at Thabraca ( Tabarka )
  • Eastern edge of the area of Vaga ( Beja )
  • Close Thimissua ( Gaafour )
  • Close Abthugni ( Henchir it - Souar )
  • Thenai ( Thyna )

After Gaius Julius Caesar had the Numidian king Juba regions of I, a follower of Pompey, after the battle of Thapsus in 46 BC annexed and converted to the Roman province of Africa Nova, formed the fossa regia, the boundary between the new and the old province of Africa vetus. 27 BC both provinces by Augustus to Africa proconsularis were summarized.
