Fossalta di Piave

Fossalta di Piave is a municipality with 4216 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Venice in the Veneto region of Italy.

Fossalta is 60 kilometers north of Venice. It covers an area of 9 km ².

The inhabitants mainly work in viticulture and tourism.

The city gained literary fame, because the young writer Ernest Hemingway in 1918 during the First World War drew upon a serious wound here. In his honor is erected a monument on the banks of the Piave. On the monument is a personal dedication Hemingway takes to the region: Io sono un ragazzo del basso Piave ( "I am a boy from the Piave - level ").
