Fosses- la -Ville is a city and a municipality in the province of Namur in the Walloon region of Belgium. The community is adjacent to Fosses- la -Ville from the villages Aisemont, Le Roux, Sart- Eustache, Sart -Saint -Laurent and Vitrival.

Abbey Fosses

The abbey was founded in 650 Fosses by the Holy Foillan, an Irish monk, on a piece of land west of Namur in Belgium, which had given him Gertrude of Nivelles. But he himself went not the office of the abbot of the new abbey at, but withdrew to Nivelles, after he had accomplished his mission. Abbot was one of his Irish companion.

Foillan was murdered in 655 Roeulx, he was then raised to the patron saint of the abbey. After his death, his brother Ultan took over († 680), the line of the abbey.

To change from the 9th to the 10th century was Gisela ( Gisla ) (* probably 860/865, † 21 June to 26 October 907 ), a daughter of King Lothair II ( Carolingian ) abbess of Nivelles and Fosses.
