Founders Escarpment

Founders Escarpment is a prominent step in the terrain on the western edge of the Heritage Range, the southern part of the Antarctic Ellsworthgebirges. It extends from the Minnesota Glacier in the north in a southeasterly direction to the head of Splettstößer glacier, where it bends to the southwest.

About the level of the eternal ice flows from the highlands in the west to the valleys of the Founders peaks that lie immediately to the east. North of the Splettstößer Glacier, at the head of Gowan glacier that juts out of the 2170m high peak on Cunningham from the ground level. At the southern end are the 2195 m high Zavis peak and the peak Unger.

Founders Escarpment has been designated by a geological expedition of the University of Minnesota, who explored the area in the Antarctic summer 1963/64, in line with the Founders peaks.
