Fountain City is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Buffalo County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, Fountain City had 859 inhabitants.

Geography

The city is located in eastern Wisconsin, on the east bank of the Mississippi River, which forms the natural border with Minnesota. The hinterland of the city is hilly to slightly mountainous.

The city has a total area of 14.4 km ², of which 11.6 km ² land and 2.9 km ² (20.1% ) of water.

History

Before the colonization by white settlers lived along the Mississippi River in the area of the Indian tribes of the Chippewa and Winnebago. In 1839, the city of Fountain City was founded. The name comes from the many springs in the place where the water flows to the Mississippi.

The settlers farmed in the following years, the surrounding areas, also brought business to the area. Later they found many relics from the first decades of settlement.

Population

According to the census in 2010 lived in Fountain City 859 people in 410 households. The population density was 74.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 410 households lived statistically 2.1 persons each.

The racial the population was composed of 97.0 percent White, 0.1 percent (one person) Black or African American, 1.4 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.6 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Character of the city

The cityscape is significantly affected by the main road, which runs parallel to the river. The only bank in the city is located on this street as well as some tiny shops.

Religion

In the city there are several churches. In addition to the Catholic Church, there are, among others, the evangelical " United Church of Christ ."

The Catholic Church is a typical neo-Gothic masonry style with elements of medieval Europe, but also of the British colonial architecture. It is a single-nave church with an external clock tower. It is illuminated at night and is one of the landmarks of the city.

The evangelical church is a modern, nondescript building, just a few 100 meters from the Catholic Church.
