Four Freedoms Award

The Four Freedoms Award is an award that is given annually to individuals or groups which are " The Four Freedoms", the U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt summoned in his speech to Congress on January 6, 1941 deserves have made.

History

On January 6, 1941 Roosevelt swore in the State of the Union Address (English speech " State of the Union " ), the four fundamental freedoms of the people, which is also known as the Four Freedoms speech - because of that. Roosevelt's wife Eleanor Roosevelt remained after the death of her husband in 1945, an active campaigner for the inclusion of the four freedoms in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.

The prizes were first awarded in 1982. Occasion, both the 100th anniversary of Roosevelt and the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Netherlands.
