Four Modernizations

The Four Modernizations (四个 现代化/四个 现代化, sì ge xiàndàihuà ) are an economic reform program, the 1975 goes back to the Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai. The farmers were allowed to sell themselves profitably the surplus. In less than eight years, the income of the rural population tripled. But only when were established in the coastal provinces of special economic zones, the Chinese economic miracle began. It not only allowed the establishment of private enterprises, but also created the legal framework for the inflow of foreign capital.

Soon demanded Chinese dissidents, including Wei Jingsheng, on the Democracy Wall a "fifth modernization " democracy. Yet, this prevented the Chinese government with repressive measures.
