Foussais-Payré

Foussais - Payré is a commune with 1190 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) to the east of the department of Vendée in the Pays de la Loire.

Geography

Foussais - Payré located 12 kilometers northeast of Fontenay -le- Comte. The Vendée flows through the municipal area.

Policy

Foussais - Payré received in 1793 during the French Revolution, the status of a municipality (as Foussay ) and 1801 the right to local self-government (also known as Foussay ). 1968 Payré -sur -Vendée was incorporated and the town was given its present name.

Foussais - Payré is part of the Local Government Association, Pays de Fontenay -le- Comte.

Since July 5, 1990, there is a community partnership with the Bavarian village Egling to the couple.

Attractions

The Romanesque church of Foussais was first documented in the 10th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century, the richly decorated façade remains from the 12th century. The church was classified as a monument historique in 1862 ( historical monument ).

The present Town Hall in Foussais located in the old building of a priory from the 13th century. It is since 1986 part historiques in the additional list of registered Monuments ( inscrit MH).

The house of François Laurens was built in 1557 for a dealer of Foussais. The facade on the side of the church square has been preserved, the interior of the building was, however, greatly changed. It is privately owned and was registered in 1989 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques.

Economy

The image of the church is dominated by fields and meadows. The main activities of the Foussaisiens (residents ) are farming, viticulture, fruit growing and the breeding of domestic animals.
