Fox Island School

Former school / now Community Center

The Fox School Iceland is a former school on Fox Iceland in the state of Washington.

Under the Reference 87001167, the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 1987.

Building

At the start of construction in 1934, respectively, a classroom for grades 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 has been created on the ground floor. Attached were a music hall which was used as a canteen and kitchen. For event there was a stage in the auditorium. In the basement, the heating system and the camps were. Similarly, a room for the kids was set up to play. The hotel grounds feature a baseball field and play equipment was were erected. The barn was used as a parking lot for the school bus.

History

The Fox Iceland School was built in 1934 with the help of the Works Progress Administration. Between 1943 and 1948, the class size fluctuated so much that sometimes only one class was taught. The Fox School District # 337 1959 Iceland was the Peninsula School District supplied divided. The school was closed in 1961 and first managed by a homestead and then operated by the Fox Iceland Community and Recreation Association ( FICRA ) as a community center. In 1981 the name was renamed in honor of Col. Frederick Nichols at Nichols Community Center.
