Fox Islands (Alaska)

The Fox Islands are the North American mainland closest island group of the Aleutian Islands. The islands belong to Alaska ( USA) and located immediately east of the Islands of Four Mountains.

The centuries inhabited the Aleutian Islands were first in 1741 by the Dane Vitus Bering, who sought new hunting grounds for Russian fur traders built for the Russian Navy, discovered. The larger islands of the group are from west to east: Umnak, Unalaska, Amaknak, Iceland Akutan, Akun, Unimak and Sanak Iceland.

Fox Islands ( German: Fox Islands) is the English translation of Лисьи острова, as the Russian explorers and fur traders named the islands in the 18th century.

Historical earthquakes

On March 7, 1929 at 01:34:37.9 UTC here an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale occurred. The quake was felt on board several ships and very violent in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. In Hilo, Hawaii, a small tsunami was recorded.

On March 9, 1957, 20:39:16.5 UTC here an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale occurred. The earthquake was felt at Adak Iceland.
