Foxe Basin

Geographical location

The Foxe Basin ( named after the explorer Luke Foxe ) is part of the Hudson Bay in northern Canada in the Nunavut Territory. The ocean pool is framed by the Baffin Island, Melville Peninsula and Southampton Island and is connected by the Fury and Hecla Strait, and the Gulf of Boothia in the northwest. In the south it connects the Foxe Channel with the Hudson Strait and Hudson Bay, Foxe Basin from which the separated by the Southampton Island. The largest island in the basin is the Prince Charles Island, the most important settlement in the area is Sanirajak.

The lake is mostly barely over 100 meters deep. The shores are mostly rocky in the south, whereas in the north flat. The Foxe Basin is home to the largest walrus herd in Canada.
