Foy, Belgium

Foy is a Belgian town of Bastogne in the Arrondissement of Luxembourg province. It lies on the N30 between Bastogne and Houffalize. In agrarian Foy live 192 inhabitants (as of January 2008), in the center you will find the church of Saint Barbe built in 1958. The running through Foy road was first built by the Romans.

Battle of the Bulge

During World War II Foy was occupied during the Battle of the Bulge by German troops. The American 101st Airborne Division besieged and finally freed the village. The attack on Foy was conducted by the Easy Company of the 506th Infantry Regiment. 2001, the battle for Foy in the miniseries Band of Brothers was filmed.

Cemetery and Memorials

To the west of Foy in the village Recogne, a German military cemetery located on the 6807 members of the Wehrmacht are buried. To the east in the forest area of the Bois Jacques you will find a memorial to honor the fallen American soldiers of Easy Company of the 506th Infantry Regiment, sponsored among others by Tom Hanks. Also located east of the Bois de la Paix ( Forest of Peace ). The 4,000 trees of the forest were planted to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. They are dedicated to the American veterans who fought in the Ardennes, Belgian combatants and all the civilian and military victims of the winter of 1944 / 1945.
