Fracture (mineralogy)
Fraction refers to the process when minerals and rocks as a result of the use of force - fall apart with irregular surfaces - for example, shock or pressure.
The appearance of the fracture can take the following forms:
- Conchoidal - for amorphous materials and dense aggregates, similar to the circular impression of a shell (for example, flint, quartz, glass)
- Uneven
- Smooth
- Fibrous
- Hooked - mainly in metals, which can be deformed tough ( eg gold, silver, copper, platinum )
- Splintery
- Earthy
