Framesaw

A reciprocating saw is a machine mostly used for round wood cuts or for natural stone ingots, which is driven by a flywheel usually via a flat belt.

The flywheel moves a guided tours to the frame by a connecting rod up and down, usually with about 270-320 strokes in modern machines up to 450 strokes per minute. In this context, one or more gate blades, which are adjustable in width, clamped.

Wood

If roundwood pushed by an automatic feeding by the working saw frame, the log is sawed into the dimensions corresponding to the blade spacing.

There are two types of feeds. On one hand, the permanent feed in more modern gate designs, which can be realized by an appropriate figure-eight motion of the saw frame ( swing frame ). The second type of feed is the feed stop, which stops up with every movement of the saw frame. This short stop the feed at every stroke is controlled in older models by jack (jack feed) or with the appropriate cam gear, or by servo motors with corresponding electronics. What is needed is the feed stop at the machines that do not have a swing frame to prevent the up -section, as the saw blades at gate machines can usually cut through their tooth shape in only one direction, down. In order to have as many teeth in use is inclined at all constructions against the cutting direction of the gate frame. This is the so-called overhang. Modern designs can their surplus adjust to this to be able to optimally adjust the feed rate automatically.

The feed of a gate system is usually depending on the size (stroke and speed), between 2 - max. 14 m / min. There are occasionally also slightly faster machines. Previously, the gang saw was the main engine in the European sawmills. Meanwhile, the mass is generated at lumber on fully automatic profiling ranging in feeds of up to 170 m / min. For small businesses, the gate is however still a good alternative.

Mini gang saws are used due to the high cutting accuracy and the extremely thin saws to produce layers for engineered flooring in the pencil industry, for the manufacture of doors and the like.

Natural stone

Not only wood is gated, but also natural stone: stone blocks that are broken in quarries, are cut in stone industries with gates to slabs and billets.

When the saw is made between sand and diamond gates. The sand gate steel sand are in the kerf for cooling the saw blades and water to optimize the cutting action of an abrasive, be mentioned flushed. The diamond gate has so-called " discs ", which are coated with diamond and are only cooled with water. The first diamond gate in the late 19th century and later were occupied until the invention of a synthetic procedure with natural diamonds.
