Framont

Framont is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Framont situated at an altitude of 215 m above sea level, 15 km north of Gray and about 50 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, on the northern edge of the valley of the salon.

The area of ​​11.73 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From northwest to southeast, the area is crossed by the Talniederung of the salon, which features numerous meanders and provides drainage to the Saône. The flood plain is, on average, 210 meters and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 250 m. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic and the Tertiary. The plateau is divided by various depressions that open up to the valley of the salon. In the Talniederung and on the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are larger areas of forest. In the north of the municipality extends to the bottom of the expanded forest area of the Bois de Groslières. With 264 m find the highest mountains of Framont is achieved. To the south, the area extends up to the heights of the Bois d' Écot and the Bois de Ramey (259 m).

The municipality consists of the following districts:

  • Franois (215 m) in the valley of the Salon
  • Mont -le- Franois (230 m) at the edge of the plateau, north of Salon- Valley
  • Le Crochot (212 m), a hamlet on the south bank of the Salon

Neighboring communities of Framont are Courtesoult -et- Gatey in the north, Achey in the east, Montot, Oyrières and Écuelle in the south and Champlitte in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman road traffic as well as coins and pottery finds suggest an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Since the 12th century the lords of Fouvent held the local domination of Franois. Contrast, Mont -le- Franois was under the Lords of Dampierre, who gave a part of the territory of the monastery Theuley. Later, the village belonged to the lords of Vergy and arrived in 1555 in response to the rule Champlitte. Mont -le- Franois 1569 looted and burned by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1972 merged Franois (1968: 122 inhabitants) and Mont -le- Franois (1968: 114 inhabitants) to the municipality Framont. Today Framont is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The Church of Franois was built in the 18th century and has a main altar in the Gothic Revival style in 1860 as well as various statues and paintings from the 16th to the 18th century. East of the village is that of the Oratory à la Vierge of 1736th in Mont -le- Franois is the neo-Gothic church from the 19th century, houses a statue of the Madonna of the 15th century. Furthermore, the chapel of Saint- Pierre ( 18th century ) and various roadside crosses from the 17th and 18th century are worth mentioning.

Of the secular buildings the houses in Mont- le- Franois are significant, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône of the 17th and 18th centuries. At the site of the former manor house a small castle was built in the 18th century. About the Salon cause two stone bridges that date back to the 18th century. Near the salon is also a Lavoir from the 19th century, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle. It was restored in 1994 until 1995.

Population

With 194 inhabitants ( 2004) Framont is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 512 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Framont was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the salon was used for the operation of several mills and a forge plant. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, especially in the sectors of wood processing and transport industry. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Dampierre- sur-Salon by Champlitte. Further road links exist with Gatey, Oyrières and Écuelle.
