France Staub

France dust (* September 29, 1920; † July 2, 2005 in Mauritius ) was an ornithologist, herpetologist, botanist and conservationist from the island of Mauritius.

Life and work

Dust is a descendant of the French botanist Jacques Delisse. In 1944 he graduated at the Mauritius College of Agriculture. In 1951 he obtained his qualification to the dentist at the Medical and Dental School of Guy's Hospital in London. Back in Mauritius, he devoted most of his spare time ornithological and botanical studies in the Mascarene Islands and neighboring islands. He has published two books: Birds of the Mascarenes and Saint Brandon ( 1976) and fauna of Mauritius and Associated Flora (1993 ) on the avifauna and numerous articles in the Proceedings of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences of Mauritius. In 1955 it was a member and was president seven times in this historical society. 1970 dust Chairman of the International Council for Bird Preservation of the Mauritian section ( now Birdlife International). In 1971 he joined the British Ornithologists ' Union.

One of the research areas of dust were studies of the relationships between Hauptbestäubern as the day geckos ( Phelsuma ) or endemic species of birds, such as the Mauritius White-eye ( Zosterops chloronothos ) with the native host plants of the genus Trochetia.

Dedikationsnamen

2005 named the Mauritian botanist Jean Bosser 1965 of dust on the Ile aux Aigrettes discovered climbing plant Cynanchum staubii from the family of milkweed plants in honor of France dust.
