Frances Bay
Frances Goffman Bay ( born January 23, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; † 15 September 2011 in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California ) was a Canadian-born and living in the United States character actress who older by presenting quirky ladies was known in film and television.
Life
Frances Bay grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba. Her younger brother was the renowned sociologist Erving Goffman. Before the Second World War she was acting professionally in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
During the war, she hosted a radio program in Canadian broadcasting, Everybody's Program, designed for military service members overseas.
Bay played in several episodes of Seinfeld. She also made appearances in Charmed, Twin Peaks and in Grey's Anatomy. She played opposite Sam Neill in In the Mouth of Madness ( 1994) by John Carpenter or on the side of Matthew Broderick in the comic book adaptation Inspector Gadget (1999).
The best known but it is likely to be made through its role as a grumpy, loving grandmother in the movie Happy Gilmore.
In 2008, she was admitted on Canada 's Walk of Fame. Bay was married; her only son died at the age of 23 years.
Frances Bay passed away on 15 September 2011 at the age of 92 years.
