Frances Dafoe

Helen Frances Dafoe, CM, O.Ont ( born January 17, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a former Canadian figure skater who started in pair skating.

Dafoe's skating partner was Norris Bowden. The pair won from 1952 to 1955 four Canadian titles. From 1952 to 1956 she participated in the World Championships. 1953 and 1956 they were runner-up and 1954 in Oslo and in Vienna in 1955 world champion. It was the first world championship for Canada in the pairs figure skating. At the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo Dafoe and Bowden won the silver medal. They were subject to scarce and highly controversial Austrians Sissy Schwarz and Kurt Oppelt.

Dafoe and Bowden were the first pair of rotary heave and throw jumps.

Dafoe was with Bowden 1952 Canadian champion in ice dancing.

After the end of her competitive career, she worked as a costume designer. She designed, among other things, the costumes for the closing ceremony of the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. Dafoe was the figure skating will also receive as a point Judge.
