Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett (* November 24, 1849 in Manchester, England; † October 29, 1924 in Plandome, New York; born Frances Eliza Hodgson ) was a British writer.

Life

Frances Hodgson Burnett was born as the daughter of a goldsmith in Manchester, England. After her father's death in 1865 the family emigrated to Knoxville (Tennessee ) to the United States. There she began to write for American newspapers.

1873 she married Dr. Swan Burnett, with whom she two sons, Lionel (* 1874) and Vivian (* 1876), had. Died in 1890, her older son. In 1898 she got a divorce from her husband. In February 1900, she married Stephen Townsend, who died only two years later. After 1901 Frances Hodgson Burnett lived in Long Iceland and Bermuda. There, she became interested in reinforced for Christianity, Gardening and spirituality. A few weeks before her 75th birthday Burnett died in 1924.

Known and loved Burnett 's because of her three children's books Little Lord Fauntleroy ( Little Lord Fauntleroy ), A Little Princess (A Little Princess ) and The Secret Garden ( The Secret Garden ). All three books were partially filmed several times.
