Frances Shand Kydd

Frances Shand Kydd Ruth ( born January 20, 1936 in Sandringham, Norfolk, England; † 3 June 2004 cable, Scotland ) was the mother of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Life

Frances Ruth Burke Roche was born on January 20, 1936 in Park House on the royal estate of Sandringham in Norfolk. Her parents were Maurice Roche, 4th Baron Fermoy ( 1885-1955 ) and Ruth Gill ( 1908-1993 ). As the daughter of a member of the British nobility, was Frances Roche from birth to the Salutation The Honourable. Frances Roche married on June 1, 1954 in Westminster Abbey ten years older than John Spencer, Viscount Althorp ( 1924-1992 ), son and heir of Albert Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer and Lady Cynthia Hamilton, a daughter of James Hamilton, 3. the Duke of Abercorn. Both Ruth Roche, Baroness Fermoy, and Cynthia Spencer, Countess Spencer, were maids of honor of the Queen Mother. Through her marriage to John Spencer Frances Roche received the courtesy title Viscountess Althorp. The marriage brought five children were born:

  • The Honourable Elizabeth Sarah Lavinia Spencer ( born March 15, 1955), married Lady Sarah McCorquodale
  • The Honourable Cynthia Jane Spencer ( born February 11, 1957), married Jane Fellowes, Baroness Fellowes
  • The Honourable John Spencer (* / † January 12, 1960 ), died ten hours after his birth
  • Diana Frances Spencer The Honourable ( born July 1, 1961 † 31 August 1997), married Diana, Princess of Wales
  • The Honourable Charles Edward Maurice Spencer ( born May 20, 1964), the current Earl Spencer.

1967 Frances Spencer began with the married Peter Shand Kydd wallpaper Tycoon, whom she had met in the summer of 1966 at a London soiree, an extramarital affair. When her husband confronted her in September 1967, his suspicion, she asked him for a trial separation. It proved for Frances Spencer difficult to gain the upper hand in the ensuing legal process, especially after Peter Shand Kydd had been divorced from his wife and found due to its relationship with Viscountess Althorp guilty of adultery. The custody battle over Lord and Lady Althorp's common children could be decided by John Spencer, Lady Ruth Fermoy after had testified at the expense of her daughter.

A month after her divorce in 1969 married Frances Spencer their new partner Peter Shand Kydd. In June 1975 Albert Spencer died, leaving his son to the 8th Earl Spencer was. The Spencer sisters all received the courtesy title Lady, while Charles Spencer in his turn the title Viscount Althorp, inherited. In July 1976 married Earl Spencer his mistress Raine, Countess of Dartmouth, who had been divorced six weeks before the wedding of her husband. John and Raine Spencer remained married until Lord Spencer's death in 1992.

The couple Shand Kydd lived up to its separation in June 1988 on the Scottish island of rope. In the short time separation followed later divorce.
