Frances Wayne

Frances Wayne ( Chiarina Francesca Bertocci, born August 26, 1924 in Boston / Massachusetts; ibid. † 6 February 1978) was an American jazz singer.

Wayne began her career in New York as a singer of a band of saxophonist Nick jerret and shortly thereafter worked with Charlie Barnet, with whom she recorded an album in 1942. In 1943 she became a member of Woody Herman's band and married trumpeter and arranger Neal Hefti. 1946 Herman both left and went to California, where Hefti founded his own band.

In subsequent years, Wayne worked as a singer with Hefti's band, besides also with Hank Jones, Milt Hinton, Jerome Richardson, Richie Kamuca, Al Cohn, John LaPorta, Billy Bauer and others. More recently, Wayne was rediscovered in 2000 released their album The Warm Sound of Frances Wayne / The Jack Wilson Quartet, 2006 Mr. and Mrs. Music by Neal Hefti Orchestra.
