Francesca di Foix is a Semiseria opera by Gaetano Donizetti, to a libretto by Domenico Gilardoni, after the farce Ninette à la cour of C.-S. Favart and Saint -Amans. The May 30, 1831 at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, first performed opera has only one act

The only moderately successful even at the premiere of the opera is one of the almost -forgotten operas of Donizetti. Is unusual for an opera by Donizetti, that the people do not wear name but able title (like " the Duke " or " Count "). Donizetti material used from Francesca di Foix later inter alia in its successful opera L' elisir d' amore (1832 ) and Lucrezia Borgia ( 1833).

Action

The wildly jealous Count hides his beautiful wife in front of the company on the grounds that she was so ugly that he could not imagine. The King and the Duke move the Countess without the knowledge of the Count at the king's court to appear. There are all overwhelmed by her beauty, and she is being courted immediately. The Count must admit, because he can not admit that the unknown beauty is supposedly his ugly wife. The King will hold a tournament, the winner must marry the unknown beauty. Now it holds the Count no longer and he admits that he lied regarding the Countess. The king persuaded the Earl to the conscience and everything will be fine.
