Francesco Balilla Pratella

Francesco Balilla Pratella ( born 1 February 1880 in Lugo di Romagna / Ravenna, † May 17, 1955 in Ravenna ) was an Italian musician and writer of Futurism.

Life

Pratella is recorded in 1899 in the Liceo Musicale G.Rossini in Pesaro and is a student of Pietro Mascagni. About the piano music he comes to the opera and composed 1905-1908 La sina d' Vergöun. In 1910 he joins the Futurists, and this is reflected in the Manifesto of Futurist Musicians. 1911 followed by the appropriate Technical Manifesto, in which he argues for atonality and irregular rhythm in music. This is complemented by writing the manifesto La distruzione della quadratura ( The destruction of the quadrature ). In his forthcoming book in 1912 also it calls for the abandonment of the classical rules of harmony. In 1913, he brings in a futuristic evening for the first time a piece of music penned by these principles to the performance that triggers violent audience reactions. In his most famous opera (L' aviatore Dro ) that arises 1913-1914, he integrated Russolo Lärmtöner. 1916 his piece Canto di guerra is listed in Bologna. He devotes the - welcomed - war manifesto Il Futurism e la guerra. After he has written since 1913 in music reviews Lacerba, he founded in 1920 together with the writers Beltramelli and Spallicci the cultural magazine La Pié. In 1922 he took over the management of the magazine Il Pensiero Musicale. Ancillary works for Anton Giulio Bragaglia and its Teatro degli indipendenti he deals increasingly with folk music and also writes about. From 1929 he was head of the music school in Ravenna.
