Francesco Canova da Milano

Francesco Canova da Milano ( born August 18, 1497 Monza, † April 15, 1543 in Milan ) was an Italian composer and lutenist of the Renaissance.

Life

Francesco da Milano was born on August 18, 1497, the son of the musician Benedetto Canova in Monza, a suburb of Milan. Giovanno Testagrossa (1470-1530), himself a lutenist at the court of Beatrice and Isabelle d' Este in Mantua, supervised his musical education. 1519 Francesco entered the service of Pope Leo X. He probably remained in Rome during the reign of Hadrian VI. and Clement VII in the late 20s of the 16th century, he returned to northern Italy, in 1528 its presence in occupied Piacenza, in 1530 he was organist of the cathedral in Milan.
