Francesco Corbetta

Francesco Corbetta (* 1615 in Pavia, † 1681 in Paris), French also Francisque Corbette, was an Italian guitarist and composer. He initially worked at the court of Louis XIV in Paris and then in London. Corbetta is considered one of the greatest guitar virtuosos of the Baroque music.

Of his works five books of music for the five-string, for double baroque guitar are obtained. The first consisted mainly of dance movements in Rasgueado technique that later show him as a master of combining Rasgueado and Punteado game. While his earlier compositions followed rather the Italian tradition, he turned in the last two volumes work very French style.
