Francesco II. Gattilusio

Francesco II Gattilusio (actually Jacopo Gattilusio; * 1370, † October 26, 1403, according to other sources 1404) was ( or Regent Lord of Lesbos since 1384 Archon.

He came from the prestigious Genoese patrician family Gattilusio and was the son of Archon Francesco I Gattilusio of Lesbos, and his wife, Princess Maria Palaiologina of Byzantium. On August 6, 1384, his father and his two brothers Andronico and Domenico arrived on Lesvos killed in an earthquake. Although his mother was initially the heiress of Lesbos, but Jacopo succeeded his father as Archon after. He took the name of Francesco II and was in his reign, support to 1387 by the brother of his father Niccolo I. Gattilusio, Lord of Ainos. He himself was married to a unidentified daughter of the Byzantine emperor John V Palaeologus, with whom he had three sons and three daughters. His daughter, Eugenia married in 1397 the Byzantine Emperor John VII Palaiologos. The daughter Helena was married to Stefan Lazarevic, Despot of Serbia, and the daughter Catarina with the Baron Pietro Grimaldi. His sons Jacopo and Dorino followed him as Archon of Lesbos. The son succeeded his uncle Niccolo Palamede Gattilusio as Lord of Ainos.
