Francesco Moraglia

Francesco Moraglia ( born May 25, 1953 in Genoa, Italy) is since 2012 the Patriarch of Venice.

Life

Francesco Moraglia studied at the seminary in Genoa Catholic theology and philosophy. On June 29, 1977, he received by Cardinal Giuseppe Siri, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Genoa. He then continued his studies and earned in 1979 at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy a licentiate in theology and in 1981 at the Pontifical Urban University with a dissertation in the subject area dogmatic about the progressive purification of the soul at the St. Catherine of Genoa to Dr. theol. doctorate.

Subsequently he was Director of Culture offices and diocesan assistant of the Movimento di Ecclesiale Impegno Culturale ( MEIC ) and professor at the seminary in Genoa. After that, he was professor of Christology, anthropology, sacraments and religious history at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy in Milan and Dean and Professor at the Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religious in Genoa.

On 6 December 2007, he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Bishop of La Spezia - Sarzana- Brugnato.
